Welcome

We are delighted to invite you to the 15th International Congress of Orthopterology (ICO2026) to be held in Patagonia at the town of San Martín de Los Andes, Neuquén Province, Argentina, from March 8-12, 2026.

San Martín de Los Andes holds special historical significance as the birthplace of the Orthopterists' Society in 1976 when 35 pioneering Orthopterists from across the Americas gathered to form the Pan American Acridological Society (PAAS), which a few years later became the Orthopterists' Society. The founding of this organization in such a remarkable location was a defining moment in Orthoptera research and it is only fitting that we gather here once again, 50 years later, to celebrate the growth and achievements of the Society and the discipline at large.

Our vision for this Congress is to celebrate “50 Years Advancing Orthoptera Research and Collaboration.” ICO2026 will showcase the latest scientific discoveries and commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the founding of the Orthopterists' Society. This congress will offer a unique opportunity to reflect on the remarkable progress made in Orthoptera research and management over the past five decades and to envision the future of our discipline. It also will serve as a celebration of the global collaboration that has been at the heart of our Society's work and a recognition of the enduring partnerships that continue to drive our collective scientific endeavors.

We warmly invite students, researchers, agricultural extension officers and their companions from around the world to visit San Martín de los Andes and experience the breath-taking beauty of Patagonia—its traditions, and landscapes. The Scientific and Local Organizing Committees are dedicated to ensure that ICO2026 contributes to the global visibility of Orthopterology and provides a meaningful platform for international academic exchange. We especially encourage young researchers to take this opportunity to present their work, fostering connections that bridge the gap between their research and the global scientific community.

Beyond the academic program, we are excited to offer a series of social events designed to help attendees connect, exchange ideas, and forge new collaborations in the spirit of our founding members. Set against the stunning backdrop of Patagonia, San Martín de Los Andes offers a unique setting for this milestone congress, where scientific discovery meets natural beauty and past achievements inspire future breakthroughs. The region’s rich biodiversity makes it an ideal location for reflecting on the past and envisioning the future of Orthoptera research.

We look forward to meeting you in San Martin de Los Andes in March of 2026!
